Corkscrew
Swamp, FL
I
retreat here to think,
To be.
Solitude preserves sanity.
I need to breathe.
Life was congested.
I need to breathe.
I battled highways thick with chaos.
I needed to get here.
I need to breathe.
Walk on, slowly in a dream- trance
Through the wet marsh
Into the virgin cypress strand.
Secretive repetilian eyes on guard,
Left in peace, maybe they know I am
One of them.
The black water is still, placid.
Breathe.
Inhale,
Exhale,
Breathe.
Breathe.
I become the water, I lounge like the panther. I wait like the gator.
I can rejoin the humans.
